2615 Park Avenue

The owner of this historic 1930s Manhattan style cooperative wanted to retain the “antique” character of the existing elevator while bringing it up to modern standards of performance and code compliance.

The existing cab was re-used after being removed and reworked in our shop. The platform depth was shortened to accommodate modern entrance units and replacement of the old bronze gate on the cab. This meant that the walls, ceiling and decorative frieze all needed to be cut down in size. The gate, being an integral part of the charm of this cab, was also retained within the new cab door as the visual focal point of the elevator.

With the many challenges this project presented, we listened to and studied what the contractor wanted at every turn. The result is a beautiful preservation of classic architecture with fully modern functionality.
